What is the Children's Corps?

The Children's Corps is a network of individuals and organizations that agree to take public action in support of the goals of the Kids First Campaign.

The Children's Corps includes three levels of advocates: Friends, Activists and Champions.

  • Friends are adults who support the goals of the Kids First Campaign by adding their name to a growing list of Friends. The Kids First Campaign requires nothing more of its Friends than permission to list their names on our Web site to show public support for our goals.
  • Activists are adults who support the goals of the Kids First Campaign and agree to take public action on behalf of children in their community and across Missouri. Examples of the work of activists include:
    • Helping Champions with organizing events
    • Hosting events
    • Attending advocacy and media trainings, community events or candidate conversation
    • Writing, calling or emailing legislators
    • Writing op-ed pieces and letters to the editor
    • Talking with others in their community about the Kids First Campaign
    • Recruiting other members of the Children's Corps
  • Champions are those Friends or Activists who take on a greater role within the campaign. They agree to:
    • Speak at community events about the campaign
    • Distribute materials about the Kids First Campaign
    • Build awareness in their community
    • Train advocates who can educate the broader community
    • Help citizens understand the value of advocacy
    • Help single-issue advocates broaden the range of issues on which they speak out
    • Organize community forums, organization candidate forums or conversations
    • Visit with legislators
    • Write, call or email legislators
    • Write op-ed pieces and letters to the editor
    • Recruit other members for the Children's Corps
    • Work closely with CMC staff to develop community strategies
